Work Related Injury/Illness Graphs
To understand what work-related injuries or illnesses that flight attendants have had in the last year, we asked how many separate work-related injury or illness episodes the flight attendant had. The top graph shows the number (0,1,2,3 and 4 or more) of episodes reported. Fifty four percent of flight attendants reported one or more work-related injuries/illnesses in the past year.
Then for each episode of work-related injury or illness reported, we asked the flight attendant to describe it. The second graph shows the results for the first injury/illness that flight attendants reported for those that reported having an injury/illness in the past year. The responses were categorized by the following descriptions:
Musculoskeletal: strain or sprain, joint aches and pains or fracture, contusion, laceration
Respiratory: trouble breathing, infection
Neurological: dizziness, headaches, numbness and tingling, fatigue
Psychological: anxiety, stress, depression
Cardiac: chest pain or tightness, high blood pressure, clots
Other: any other injury or illness
